Thank you so much to @readerstfirst @harpercollinsuk and the author for the gifted copy of this book in return for an honest review.
It's an historical fiction story based before and during WWII and it tells us a tale of two young girls - Simone Lyon, a daughter of Belgium National hero, and Hava Daniels, eldest daughter of Jewish family. They both are so different but they form inseparable friendship and once Nazis enter Belgium and they get separated from their own families, girls have only each other to rely on.

We all know how horrific and emotional WWII stories are - families separated, loved ones killed, homes lost, starvation and fight for survival - and this one is no different. Author has a wonderful writing style but sometimes I felt disconnected from the story and couldn't fully relate to the characters for some reason.

The non-fiction excerpts at the beginning of each chapter added an extra insight into the events and more emotion for the reader. If you like historical fiction you might want to check this tale of friendship, courage and resilience.
