Really can’t decide about this one and I was really looking to reading it.
The book is about Simone, daughter of General Joseph Lyon, everyone knew him for digging a trench in WW1 that stopped the advance into Belgium.
Hava Daniels was working her first day at the Red Cross when she met Simone and they became the best of friends, Hava is a Jew.
The friendship between them is very close but a lot of the times Hava seems quite odd in things she does and Simone follows, these parts I struggled to enjoy as seemed to crazy.
Their story tells of Simone’s father going away and WWII beginning in earnest over Belgium, the way the planes came and just shot people down in the streets horrified me. Hava became separated from her family and the girls have to fend for themselves and get themselves to a place of safety.
Certainly worth a read
