This book made me feel a sadness that anyone who has ever been a mother must feel. You want to protect your child against anything and everything. A mother doesn't normally feel responsible for her children for all their lives. They have to be allowed to grow up, hard as it is for the mother. However, how can you detatch yourself from a child who has serious health problems and may one day for before you.
She tried to let him live a normal life, but their bond was strong. Obviously he would turn to his mother if his health wasn't at it's best. It is so sad that a talented, vibrant young man couldn't be like his peer's. Both mother and son have been cheated out of a normal progression of age and experience. A lovely but sad book.
