Beautifully descriptive, clunky dialogue

This is not the style of books I would usually read however was gripped within the first few sentences. The way in which the author describes the landscape and physical geography of the outback is beautiful, and creates a crystal clear vision of what it would be like to be there.
Unfortunately, there is a huge disconnect between this evocative writing and the way in which the dialogue is written, which is a bit jarring. It's as though there are two authors, one who is responsible for speech and one for narrative.
The plot is gripping, and it's definitely something I'd continue reading, a lot happens in a short space of time.
