This is a setting I've never experienced before - 1850s Australia - and it immediately drew me in. Toby and Paddy, sons of an Irish emancipated prisoner and his wife, are characters absolutely poised by Bill Swiggs (amazing name by the way) to crash straight into adventure and peril, but it is the mysterious band of villains that really create the stir in this first chapter. I'm a bit gobsmacked... why did they do that???? What's their game????? I've had my eye on a few Western-inspired books recently and even though this isn't set in the Old West, this will definitely go on the list!

On the more superficial front, I can NEVER resist a cover with blue and orange. It reminded me of the cover of J. Ryan Stradal's Kitchens of the Great Midwest, which I picked up mainly because of the cover and ended up loving. I think this cover looks great and I can almost hear the pistols cocking from here.
