‘Blood in the Dust’ takes you vividly into the Australian outback of the 1800s and the narrative weaves two stories – it begins with a traumatic experience at the family home of Toby and Patrick, where they brutally lose their parents. Weaved into this is the arrival of two families from England, who are prospecting for gold.
What follows is a story of sibling relationships, personal growth and the hardships of life for the early settlers in Australia, there’s also a compassionate look at how the native Aborigines were treated as well, which is an all too familiar story.
This is a solid adventure book set in an unforgiving land with a real nasty villain working amongst some likeable characters – so be prepared for lots of emotional ups and downs!
