An historical adventure - set in the 1850s in the gold-fields of Australia with some great details of the way life was there and then.

This novel has won a Wilbur Smith award so you can be sure there is plenty of action and outdoor adventure. There is a pioneer spirit together with impressive descriptions of the scenery and landscape so Bill Swiggs shows himself to be a fit disciple of the Wilbur Smith approach. Of course men are men, horses are important, women are home. There is danger, hard dirty work, high hopes, cruelty, bravery, skullduggery and revenge.

Blood in the Dust has heart and friendship, loyalty and romance so if you like family sagas you will enjoy it. It wouldn't surprise me if a sequel appears to continue the story of the O'Rourkes and Hockings family.

I always hoped another author as good as Wilbur Smith would come along, well he's here!. You can almost feel the country in the writing. What Wilbur Smith did with Africa, Bill Swiggs has done with Australia, if I could give six stars I would, please write another one soon, thanks for a Great Read
