Blood's Game introduces us to a bufflehead (I so need that particular word in my life),Holcroft, who is the bastard son of Colonel Thomas Blood. What Holcroft does not have in social niceties he makes up for with his fists and his devotion to the Queen of Diamonds.
Colonel Thomas Blood was very definitely a Roundhead who helped depose the King during the Civil War. He is now on the run from the returned King's men and is having a rather debaucherous time of it when they catch up with him.
The King meanwhile is suffering from penury as the million stipend he received from parliament doesn't quite seem to match up with what his largesse demands. He also seems to have a tiresome case of constipation.
Told with a great deal of humour and almost conversational tone Blood's Game is shaping up to be an enjoyable historical romp.
