Although Angus Donald is an author I hadn't heard of before, I am a fan of both Conn Iggulden and Bernard Cornwell so first thing would be right up my street! I was not disappointed!! As a history lover, the Tudor/Stuart period is definitely one of my favourites and the first look at this historical fiction was full of all the details I particularly enjoy. The writing style actually seemed reminiscent of the Shardlake series by CJ Sansome, which I also enjoyed.
It is also refreshing to read a novel based around characters of the time who are not perhaps as often written about.
