My initial thoughts after reading the synopsis was that this could possibly be a heavy read, weighted down by historical detail and facts introduced at every available opportunity.

Not so! It has a fairly breezy, easy to read style, yet still manages to capture enough atmosphere to reflect the era. There's rogue vs royal, plus plenty of personailty injected into the players that have made an appearance.

And I'm completely smitten with young Holcroft Blood and his 'special' mannerisms. It must have been incredibly difficult for someone like Holcroft to exist during this period, so my curiosity is piqued as to the strategies he may have applied to get by and what the future may hold for him. I believe his unexpected reactions to threatening situations could be well worth the read, so I'd be keen to explore his particular character further.

Royal court sounds like a blast too, and I'm not referring to the problematic bathroom habits of King Charles II!

All in all, even in this short excerpt intriguing situations have arisen to make "Blood's Game" sound like a tempting historical treat.
