Captain Blood's autistic son Holcroft has a gift for deciphering codes and is recruited as a confidential agent by the Duke of Buckingham thereby becoming privy to the conspiracies with France and Holland, Catholics and Protestants. The book is full of fact, humour and intrigue. There are wonderful characters both at the corrupt and bankrupt court of Charles II and in the slums of London. I look forward to further novels involving Holcroft Blood and Jack Churchill (who will become the Duke of Marlborough).
