I was intrigued by the front cover, the juxtaposition of flowers and forceps against the vivid background is eye catching.

I immediately liked Cassie Raven, the way she speaks to the dead in her care in the mortuary and takes in the small details that others miss made her seem very warm and caring. Her alternative exterior and orphaned, squat jumping, authority rejecting back story and the sudden appearance of a pivotal figure in her life on the mortuary slab really makes me want to keep reading.
