I like the inner voice of Cassie, her persona is complex. I generally don't choose this genre but have enjoyed some books along these lines. I can cope with the 'gore' as long as it's in context and not gratuitous. It's a fascinating and hidden environment, putting together all the pieces to find out what's needed for those lost and surviving.
