I’ll admit that when I first saw the cover for this book, I thought it may be too forensic and gruesome for me - but I’m so glad I ignored my first impression!
Having just read this book in one sitting, unable to put it down, I can safely say it is brilliant! It’s clever, well written and most of all has a wonderful cast of characters.
Our main character is Cassie Raven, a mortuary technician with a tragic past. However, Cassie isn’t your average technician - she really listens to what the dead have to tell her. So when her former teacher and mentor shows up at the morgue after supposedly dying in a drowning accident, Cassie isn’t so sure...
With the help of DS Flyte, a seemingly cold woman dealing with her own recent tragedy, Cassie sets out to discover the truth of what happened to her friend.
I absolutely loved Cassie - she is one of the most empathetic characters I’ve had the pleasure of reading and I enjoyed watching her friendship with DS Flyte progress throughout the story.
I had no inkling as to how the story would end, which is always a great sign, and I loved the experience of unravelling this crime, as well as some of the crimes which act as side stories in the book.
I really hope to see more of Cassie after this!
