Cassie Raven believes the dead can talk. We just need to listen. Cassie is an experienced mortuary technician. She is the only one who listens to the deceased. The dead usually leave Cassie with clues as to how they died allowing Cassie to ensure they get a proper result from their postmortems. When the body of someone she knows comes to the mortuary under suspicious circumstances Cassie is determined to help her friend. The pathologist says that her death was an accident. Cassie says that the body tells her a different story.

Body Language is a captivating crime novel and I was compelled to read on. The author has written the characters well and the main character, Cassie Raven, is a well crafted unique character. Despite her scary exterior Cassie has a sweet heart underneath it all, even if she has an unusual fascination for death. The author has dedicated time to developing Cassie Raven and it shows in the story. I found Cassie to be very likeable. I liked how Cassie took pride in her job and how she treats the deceased with the utmost respect. I also really liked Cassie's no nonsense straight talking grandmother. In her quest for the truth Cassie comes across DS Flyte, and they are both wildly different. Cassie is a goth with tattoos and piercings and DS Flyte is a clean cut detective with not a hair out of place. The story is written in the third person which enables the reader to see things from both Cassie's and DS Flyte's point of view. We can see how they both judge each other early on and how they are then both determined to get to the answers.

The plot was very well crafted, well paced and the multiple mysteries were riveting. The author has clearly done a lot of research for this book and everything was perfectly explained and described. I liked that the story was set in England, particularly in Camden. The mortuary setting allowed for the author to create a very unique and interesting crime novel. I found myself constantly wanting to continue reading to get to the answers. There were no loose ends and at the end every mystery was explained.

I have expanded my genres and Body Language is my introduction into crime novels. I can honestly admit I have no idea why I have not been reading crime novels before! This book did not disappoint. I absolutely love the cover, the colours are truly beautiful. I was drawn in from the moment I started reading, the writing style suited me perfectly and I am looking forward to reading more from this author. This novel was so well written, the characters were well crafted and the mysteries were sufficiently gripping. I highly recommend this book to crime fans and to anyone looking to get into this genre.
