I really enjoyed this book. First of all, I liked the writing style. It was clear and easy to read, and the use of third person allowed us to look at things from both Cassie and Flyte’s point of view, which was interesting as they are two such different characters yet each were relatable and likeable. Secondly, the protagonist Cassie was AMAZING. Seriously, I love her. She is not the typical person you’d expect in a murder mystery novel - she is a goth with tattoos and piercings who is also a mortuary assistant and has a troubled past. Cassie is so likeable and she has amazing qualities but also flaws which make her character all the more believable. Her perspective on death as a mortuary assistant made for an interesting take on the mystery, and Flyte was able to balance this out with her more traditional detective character.

The mystery itself was also pretty intriguing, there was plenty of revelations and high-stakes moments. I read the last part of the book very quickly as I couldn’t wait to find out what happened. The story wrapped up nicely but the ending hinted there’s more to Cassie’s story, so I have high hopes for a sequel where I get to see more of her character. Cassie is a fresh female protagonist and I adored her, I would love to go back into her world again.
