Cassie Raven is a 25 year old mortuary technician that has a gift of hearing the dead. When she suspects one of her patients deaths isn’t all the police have signed it off as, she starts her own investigation. Throughout, Cassie works alongside Detective Flyte to uncover the mystery.

First of all this cover...wow, how can you not be drawn in by that? That’s the first thing that attracted me to this book!

Cassie is tattooed, pierced, has shaved the underneath of her hair and was previously a squatter. You see how much she gets judged from an outside perspective when in reality she is the opposite of what people expect. Cassie talks to the bodies as if they’re still alive and handles them so gently with such care and compassion. I really liked Cassie and I think this helped to drive the book forward as I wanted answers for her. A.K. Turner has done a fantastic job with character development alongside the plot.

The story itself has twists and turns that I just didn’t see coming. Just as you think you’ve figured it out it, new evidence comes to light. A lot of research has gone into the medical references in this book and I think it has been written astonishingly well. I highly recommend people read this book and I will definitely be reading more of Turner’s work.

Thank you to A.K. Turner, Readers First, Bonnier Books and Zaffre for the chance to read this book.
