I really enjoyed this novel by A.K. Turner. Firstly, the premise gripped me immediately because I've never read a book about a mortuary assistant before and there was something compelling about Cassie as she uses her intuition to try and solve the mystery of Mrs. E's death.
Cassie as a character was a delight to read about. Even though she isn't typical in any way, her kindness and respect for the dead made her really endearing. I also liked the fact she can hear the thoughts of the dead. In fact, I thought all of the characters were really dynamic and well-developed.
The plot moved at a really fast-pace and I was engrossed throughout. I didn't guess where it was going to go, which is rare for me. I thought the characters worked really well together and their relationships kept the story really engrossing.
This is a great book in the mystery genre, and I think this is a great start to a new series. I'll be following Cassie's adventures in all her future novels.
