Well written and you are propelled instantly into the bizarre concept that the dead talk. the main character is Cassie raven, a senior mortuary technician. she is described as an orphan, comes from a rebellious youth despite the love and nurture offered from her polish grandmother. Cassie is instantly likeable and despite her emotionally damaged background, she is compassionate, intelligent and this is often overlooked due to her appearance (goth/punk) which she tones down when assisting with the grieving relatives. She was inspired by a chance encounter with a teacher, who took an interest in Cassie while Cassie was living on the streets. The teacher, Mrs edwards discusses science with Cassie on their daily meet up, and something in Cassie is ignited. Her night classes with Mrs E put her on a new career path and Cassie feels indebted. So when Mrs E appears on her slab, Cassie needs to use her ability to talk with the dead to find out the truth of Mrs E suspicious demise.
