Clearly this is the first book in a series featuring a likeable duo of mortuary technician and dectective - both with very differing personalities and issues. It's off to a great start - twisty red-herrings aplenty, characters are well drawn, and it's well paced.

I loved that Raven our mortuary tech is bisexual but it's not an issue - it's just who she is and isn't used as a plot device - but are ALL mortuary tech's goths with tattoos and piercings??? There seems to be so many of them.

The big reveal in the final chapter felt a little 'tacked on' and unnecessary but presumably leads into the next book so that can be forgiven.

All in all this is a great solid thriller - both police procedural and something a bit different so it doesn't feel tired and formulaic - it stands out from other thrillers for that, and as a bonus is gripping, fast moving and well written. I'll definitely be looking out for future releases in the series!
