Once I started to read this book I really didn't want to put it down. Cassie Raven is a mortuary technician who really loves her job. She treats the bodies in her care with respect and tenderness. Not only does she talk to them, when no one else is about, but at times she believes they speak to her. One day she is shocked to find it is the body of Mrs E that has been brought in. It was Mrs E who had saved Cassie from a life lived on the streets by encouraging her to study. Cassie becomes convinced that her friend and mentor was murdered and sets out to prove it. Although this is the main theme of the book there is a lot more happening in the story. A break in at the mortuary, drug gangs, con artists and of course death itself. Cassie is an interesting character who because of her past finds it difficult to form relationships. This book will keep you guessing right to the end.
