This book arrived unexpectedly and how glad I am that it did! The book felt fresh and up to date and it would seem the plan is for this to become the beginning of a new series. The main character Cassie is a likeable, competent and determined mortuary technician. Detective Flyte is another likeable character. I liked their relationship and how the chapters swapped between the two. At first I was unsure about the "voices" Cassie hears from her clients, as I like my books to be believable! But actually this was only a small part of the story line and didn't make it stray into the unbelievable. I felt the revelations about Cassie's family history came too near the end, but I expect more to be revealed in future books.
The book cover is bright and attractive and would stand out amongst others in it's genre. I look forward to reading more by this author.
