This book has been sat on my book shelf clamouring to be read. However, due to circumstances it has had a long wait. I have been reading quite a few crime novels in the lead up to Christmas and decided two days before Christmas to begin Body Language by A K Turner. Cassie Raven is a mortuary technician who likes to speak to the dead, before she begins to slice them open. She has an empathy towards the deceased which enables her to do her job well. She has also suffered lost in the past and this has shaped her nature and personality. She never lets anyone become close to her apart from her beloved grandmother who raised her from the age of 4. Until one day she is confronted by the body of a person she knows well and this changes her in various ways. Cassie Raven is a character who slowly reveals parts of herself as the story develops. As I continued to read, I did wonder where the story was going as I was expecting a huge build up and then the climax. However, A K Turner slowly reveals layers of the story, until the story reaches its conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and feel that this is the first book in a series of books regarding Cassie Raven - I hope so! A K Turner has created two very different, strong female leads and I look forward to more of her work.
