The cover really stood out and was the first thing that drew me to this book and after reading the description I was so intrigued!

Cassie, the lead protagonist is a mortuary technician who believes she can speak to the dead, who give her clues as to how they’ve ended up in the mortuary. When her old teacher turns up in the mortuary she makes it her mission to find out the truth being what happened to her. The story follows Cassie & DS Flyte’s investigation...

At first, with it being set in a mortuary I thought it was going to be a bit creepy and gory but luckily it wasn’t too bad! I did find the first part of the book very slow, there seemed to be a lot of storylines and no idea as to where they were going with it. With it being the first book of a series, I found there was quite a lot of backstory included along with strong character development so I’m wondering if this was done purposefully so that maybe the next book in the series won’t have such a slow start?

I still thoroughly enjoyed the book as I thought it was written really well and super easy to follow switching between the narrative of Cassie & DS Flyte. The ending of the book did bring it back for me, it was a fantastic twist that I would never have predicted! Although, there was one storyline that myself, Shannon & Jessica all wanted a little bit more on but it doesn’t take anything away from the amazing ending.

Despite the 3.5 star rating I would 100% be interested in reading more of this series to find out where it goes with Cassie & DS Flyte!

Thank you so much Readers First, Zaffre & A K Turner for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is out 26th Nov!
