I honestly don't understand how people enjoyed this book so much

The premise was good, the first impression was good but the book itself was a let down.

It's essentially a true story so they needed to get the penmanship and flow of the story right and maintain the readers interest, and even with such intriguing perspective and fascinating lives to focus on they've missed the mark.

I appear to be in the minority here but I didn't find it insightful or deep or eye-opening.
I found it dull and that the format of the two characters alternating the story just gave the whole book a weird tone and pace.

Yes their were some good bits and sections of drama but to me there was no particularly deep or shocking insights into how lives changed being married to notorious drug-lords. It has all the cliche's and emotions in the right places but something in the telling just fell flat for me and I really struggled to engage with the story in this format(AND IT'S A TRUE STORY!).

Bits of it are good, and the way they tell the key events at times can be great but if you are thinking this will read like a thriller or a narco-esque type tale think again. If you are thinking it will be a more detail biographical ,read well,It's got a lot of events but not a lot of depth, emotion or analysis in my view and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
