This tells the story of two girls from hardworking backgrounds who end up married to drug dealers. It shows how even when you have a positive back ground (good role models including police officers, supportive parents...) you can fall down a hole. No one in the families is a drug user however they get caught up in drug dealing from three different paths. The boys are born to a family where crime supports you, the girls have boyfriends who deal and introduce them to the twins.
The book is well written but the story is a bit light to start. You have the innocent fluffy girls who gradually become more and more aware of what their fellas are doing. When they move to Mexico the violence picks up and the comfort doesn’t make up for it leading you into what happens when they decide to go informer. The story is pieced together from each girls view point layering what they told each other and what their men said to form a colourful narrative where each person has their own voice. A true life tale to read alongside narcos.
