It was clear from my first impression of these accounts that they capture a time which to many will seem like a different world, certainly one which is far-removed from the present day when, for most people, planning for Christmas means being able to find what they want on well-stocked shelves! I think the stories capture the impressive resourcefulness people can demonstrate when times are difficult, the heightened sense of community. However, as I have read a lot about this period I don't feel attracted by this book so, as I am aware that lots of people are keen to read the book, won't enter the draw!
