This historic novel gives us a different perspective from different children's experience for Christmas, during the war. Some kids were lucky and others were not as fortunate. Many had to be sent to foster homes, and stayed in them for Christmas.

I liked how the author received information from evacuees and sharing their thoughts and experience. I thought that some stories were too short and were not as easy to "stand in their shoes". I personally like historical biographies, especially when they come from different points of view. I felt sympathy for the less fortunate children and thought of modern children, whose demands are much more commanding. This made me felt that this should be a book for children where they can experience and feel empathy.
