This book whisked me off to another time and place, one that I know of only from history lessons or television programmes. To hear about what things were like for the people who experienced life during wartime Christmas, from those people. It was humbling, heartwarming and brought to me a plethora of emotions. These people endured things many of us may never have to and this book serves as a stark reminder of the strength of the human spirit and our ability to make the best of things. I was disappointed when the preview ended as this is a book that drew me in from the first line and I could have sat and read all day. I wonder whether there are accounts from any of the parents of the evacuated children further into the book. I'll definitely read the whole book and love every second!
