When you read this book, it makes you appreciate the changes (although not all for the better) from war days to date, how much harder times were then. People at that time didn't seem to complain about how things were, merely made the best of a bad situation and really appreciated what little gifts their loved ones got for them, which meant and cost a lot, whether by saving ration coupons or trading them on the black market. Some of the foods they used to post, would definitely not be possible today.

What's good about this book, and would've taken a lot of time to collate and organize for the book, is that you get many peoples memories of their experience of Christmas at War, giving you a broader understanding of how things were.

Not generally my genre of book, but was an interesting read.
