This book pulls you into the plot within the first few pages though it is not for the squeamish with a human sacrifice, a sword fight and a musket battle within the first dozen pages.

It charts the founding of Jamestown the first colony on Virginia and the main protagonist is Christian Hardy who is sent to Jamestown by Prince Henry to ensure it prospers - the Spanish and native Indians not withstanding. There are a whole host of interesting historical characters depicted from Prince Henry to Robert Cecil to Captain John Smith. As such alongside the actions of the hero it provides a detailed account of the political intrigues of the time - King against son, Englishman against Englishman and Englishmen against the Spanish. It also details the fight of the first colonists against disease, the natives and each other.

Added to this is the fact that Hardy is up against his arch enemy the Spanish agent Realm whom he has battle before and with whom he has a personal score to settle and you have a story packed with action and adventure.
