When I first read the synopsis about this book I was a bit dubious as I'm not really into the YA genre but I do love a sci-fi adventure so decided to try it out and I'm so glad I did.
This is a story about Noemi a soldier from her home planet Genesis who is sent on what turns out to be a suicide mission but ends up instead meeting a Mech a terrifying combination of robotics and human. Though relations between them are hostile at first Claudia Gray does a great job of developing their characters gradually as we progress through the story.
The point of view of the story alternates between Noemi and Abel the mech and we are taken on a whirlwind adventure through different worlds and great action scenes and adventure. In between this is the gradually but sweetly done growing relationship between Noemi and Abel.
There's also little pockets of humour especially when we are reading from Abels point of view which I didn't expect at first but found really enjoyable and started looking forward too.
Claudia has a nice style of writing that makes it easy to read and really draws you into the story and you care about what happens to the characters
This was a great read and I will look forward to reading more of Claudia Grays books in the future
