This story is about Karl and his relationship with the natural world around him in Tasmania. The description of how he recruited his hunting partner - a seal - and later witnessed the seal's murder by orcas is pure poetry and very moving. By contrast, his relationship with other humans - his wife and daughters - is dealt with very quickly with little description or emotion.
