As a fantasy novel it works quite well. The section on the wombat farm in Melaleuca was well described and the descent in to madness - or maybe possession - was evocative and absorbing. The history of Charlotte and Levi's parents also gripped me too.
This is the basic premise of the story but it is also about identity and finding out who you are. This is helped by the characters of Levi, Charlotte and their estranged father.
Arnott’s plot is original, and he keeps the reader intrigued with twists and turns and a dramatic climax. He takes the reader through emotional highs and lows as his characters feel joy and sorrow, grief, love and lust, fear, wonder, and loneliness.
This was a lovely read!
