This is an unusual but enthralling book. This is not your standard novel that starts you in one place, has a clear middle and a clear ending that leaves you feeling the whole book was going somewhere. This book is a ramble and a journey, it is descriptive and interesting and is something you just have to lose yourself in and go with it. I'm not sure which genre I would put this book in, or even which genre that I think, Robbie Arnott, the author was going for. Nevertheless I enjoyed the First Look and think that Flames is someone that has a place on most peoples bookshelves, especially those who are looking to take an interesting, slow and weaving meander through their literary world.
