I admit I hadn't read the first book but from reading the excerpt I don't think it's necessary. It is well written, you can tell the author really gets into the mind of her characters, and is very skilled at writing. It's shaping up to be an interesting read, it's defiantly a good book the kind you need to focus on so you don't miss any important information. If you're into contemporary thrillers then chances are you'll love this.
