This is a detailed biography by a Royal Protection Officer of his time as the principal protection officer to Diana, Princess of Wales and her sons Prince William and Prince Harry. It is an interesting read in terms of the fraught relationship between the Princess, the Princes and the media. Prince William is portrayed as being particularly protective towards his mother in her dealings with the press. Added to this complex dynamic is that of the deteriorating relationship between the Princess and her husband, the Prince of Wales which seems to have made the task of the Royal Protection officers much more difficult both in terms of managing security and in seeking not to be seen to favour one party over the other.
Ken Wharfe has sought in this book to explain these complexities in a compressive and bipartisan manner that reflects well on him and the Royal Protection detail of the Metropolitan Police.
