This is a selection of memorable events in Princess Diana’s life as a Royal as related by Ken Wharfe who was initially the Personal Protection Officer for Princes William and Harry before taking on the same role with Princess Diana.
The majority of the events describe Princess Diana in a positive light in terms of her choosing less popular interests to promote and if this were all then this book would have been interesting but not pivotal. What does set it apart and makes it essential reading for those interested in the Royal Family is the fact that Wharfe does show a more private and potentially less enamoured view of Princess Diana in terms of both her petulance and her clear decision to seek retribution against the Prince of Wales for his relationship with the then Camilla Parker Bowles.
There are some light hearted moments described throughout the book as well as a recognition that Wharfe rightly or wrongly became something of a sounding board or confidant for Princess Diana until eventually both she and he felt that he could not continue as PPO.
Overall an enjoyable read.
