I think I have probably read almost every book written about Diana, Princess of Wales.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I have read lots of things about Diana, as most people probably have, and the thing that keeps being repeated time and again is her interaction regarding the press and photographers. In once sense she's wanting a normal life, and to be away from the media, the next she's courting the press. Diana, if nothing else, knew how to play the game, and play it to her advantage.

Another reoccuring theme throughout the last 2 decades is her ability to blow hot and cold with friends and family members.
We all thought we knew her. Because she knew how to connect with the public, but reality is we didn't have a clue who she was. We saw what she wanted us to see, and the intervening years have produced an almost goddess icon. She isn't and wasn't. She was a normal human being, who had compassion and care way beyond her age, albeit a privileged human being, where money was no problem. But that doesn't mean she was a goddess. She would fall out with people for no apparent reason and cut them dead, this is explored in the book in later chapters.

People are bemoaning Megan and her apparent diva moments, her late mother in law had diva moments, lots and lots of them by all accounts, and some are laid bare in this book.

Ken Wharfe is extremely good at writing his first hand accounts, and I think reading some of Diana's antics it's surprising he didn't actually take early retirement and go have a long lay down.

I laughed out loud at the retelling of her escape for freedom whilst on a ski holiday! Who launches themselves out of a window into a snow drift and wanders around for several hours in the dead of night? Seemingly Diana! She was always craving normal holidays, yet there's not one single holiday in that book that appeared normal.
Her humanitarian work though, went above and beyond anything else.

If you are a fan of the late Diana, then this book is definitely for you. She was an amazing person, but she was no goddess.
