Having read Rory Clements before and enjoyed his attention to detail, I struggled a bit to get into this but thought worth persevering. It was!!

Once it had introduced itself and the characters, it was a good read.

It is a very detailed and well researched novel, with a story line that is both intriguing and compelling. The story kept flowing and was strong.

Unfortunately whilst this is a wartime thriller involving an undercover mission to smuggle something secret out of the heart of Hitler's Reich I found the way the plot developed was largely underwhelming, with some threads that had no explainable point at all!!

Much of this novel is simple or roughly predictable, punctuated by bits of action, and a wonderfully descriptive telling of there surroundings and thoughts.
However I didn't feel drawn into a sense of danger often and found myself briefly bored or suspending belief too many times.
I know authors have little say in cover designs, but feel that thus does Clements a disservice and may turn some readers off a fundamentally good read.
