Reading this book I had a very limited knowledge about the second wold war; other than what I’d learned in GCSE history. But this book tells you about that time through the eyes of those people living it day by day. Tom is a very likeable and relatable character and throughout the story you are rooting for him. The book keeps you in suspense for so much of it and I found that I couldn’t just stop at the end of s chapter I just had to keep reading on. The only downside to this book is that it isn’t one that you can read on public transport without getting strange glances off fellow passengers as I think some people thought it was a nazi book. I definitely learnt a lot and would recommend it to others.
