Home: My Life In The Universe is written in the first person and told from the point of view of Leah, a 14-year-old with a fondness for the wild and stargazing who - to the surprise of her parents - decides to attend an international summer camp where she meets characters like her first love Sean as well as formidable climate activist Kayleigh.

The chapters are referred to as "Windows" such as "fear" and "growing confidence" and read like the diary entries of a teenager, so from that point of view you could argue the novel has an authentic narrative voice. The book is written in a way that is easily accessible for the younger readers it is aimed at (e.g. it's not too descriptive and the paragraphs are relatively short), while the fear of being away from home for the first time is also something that a lot of young people (and their parents) can relate to.
