I didn't enjoy reading this book.
For a supposed thriller story it was rather dull and predictable in places

Firstly it jumps around a lot,

It is set in the German-Austria border and little is done to actually explain the geography of the area or how characters came to be where they were at the different points in time.

The story itself flicks between what's happening now and events of the past, but a whole chunk of the book is set on repeating the same pieces of information from a variety of characters in increasingly boring and meaningless dialogue that actually doesn't add anything to the story but pads it out.

It's hard to write about the plot because it quickly both foreshadows and mostly reveals who the mystery bad guy is.

In a nutshell Jesse's ex-wife is murdered and his daughter kidnapped and to find what happened to her he has to revisit his old care home and discover what really happened when he lost his memory in an accident as a child.

Whilst some of the characters were well written a lot of what is said is just to emphasise plot points to the reader.

I found a lot of the characters responses to events to be questionable and once you twig on the "who" the story kind of dies a death really.

However once you plug through it all and piece it all together Marc Rabbe has written a really good ending, with some good drama and suspense and tries to link in the nuances of the characters that he's spent the rest of the book repeatedly reinforcing.

I wouldn't really recommend this book, but I read the whole thing and I've definitely read worse.
