I thought I may struggle with this. The opening scene with the "insect man" almost put me off, with me wrongly thinking it had sci-fi elements. However I persevered and how glad I am. Initially I thought Jesse's role as a doctor was going to play a bigger part in the story but in the end it didn't matter. I really enjoyed the German setting - that set it apart from other thrillers I've read. I found it easy to follow the time swaps (the font changes helped!) and surprisingly for me, I didn't have to keep re-reading bits to know what was going on. It had a good range of characters. I particularly liked Isa - what a strong little girl, and liked the relationship between Jesse and Jules. I'd not heard of Marc Raabe before but will look out for his other work.
