I was not sure what to make of this book at the start as it felt a bit disjointed but as the plot evolved and the action sped up it turned into a bit of a white knuckle ride with the entire plot only becoming clear in the closing pages of the book.
In essence finds his ex-wife dead and his daughter Isa missing. He is told not to contact the police by her kidnapper but to forget her altogether. With his ex-wife’s friend Jule in tow he starts a journey into his past as he searches out his old friends from his time in the children’s home believing that one of them may be responsible for Isa’s abduction. The only problem with this approach is that Jesse cannot remember anything about his life at the home prior to his having been injured and ending up in hospital. Jesse has always assumed that one person in particular was responsible for this and after he took his revenge as a child, he thought that the slate was clean.
There are various levels to the plot of this book and you quickly find yourself being drawn into them even though at times it’s hard to feel empathy with the young Jesse.
