I had high expectations of this book. Already a published author I expected to be taken on a journey where the plot slowly unravelled and the characters evolved. I wanted to be on a road of discovery; to switch off from the World and be taken into a different place.
Instead, very quickly it just felt that I was attempting to wade through mud. Finding it difficult to attach myself to any character, the premis of the story, and therefore the ultimate ending.
Which I am sad to say was so glaringly obvious.
Any attempt of ‘horror’ or fear was lost on me, I felt, perhaps a ten year old might be more the target audience.
The story felt laboured and overplayed.
I am afraid, despite feeling I had a duty to read it in its entirety, for only the second time in my life, I just skipped to the end.
