Before I even got to the text of the book, I knew I’d want to read more. The Author’s Note was written in a way that spoke to me (too fluffy?). I’m neither Muslim nor a gay man but clearly his story needs to be heard and I want to be educated.
I liked Amir’s voice and want to hear more from him. I was instantly drawn into his hook ups with Jackson and I’m intrigued to hear what happens with Amir’s family.
I recently read The Henna Wars but that was very ‘soft’. Of course it discussed important topics but I think this book is going to be more of a real and difficult coming out story and I am eager to read it. I’m also ALL IN for the fun and frolics I hope Amir has in Italy!
I think the title is a bit of a dark humoured play on people’s prejudices. I love the bright yellow colour of the cover and it’s the sort of cover I would pick up in the bookstore.
