A fun read, that also tackles a number of stereotypes

I really enjoyed reading this book. It tackled numerous stereotypes, the most obvious being how we conceive Muslim families and their attitudes towards homosexuality.

'How it all blew up' can be considered semi-autobiographical, as Arvin clearly reflects on his own experiences to construct a funny yet thought provoking story.

The story starts off from when Amir and his family are detained after having an argument on a flight back home to the USA. This leads to Amir reflecting on his time in Rome, where he ran off to after a boy from his high school threatened to out him to his parents, as well as snippets from interviews with his family who are being held within different interrogation rooms. This all adds to the drama and makes the book enjoyable to read. It gives a good sense of all the characters.
