This book is an inspiration. Amir runs from home because he doesn't feel his family would accept him if they knew he is gay, so he runs to Rome and lives his best life for a while. The multiple narrators provide different perspectives of each character, so the reader starts to understand why they all feel the way they do. I liked the before and after the incident perspectives and think it really compliments the multiple narrator perspectives. I sometimes got muddled Amir's friends in Italy because they did not have enough description. I understand this is based on true events, so thought there would be more. I enjoyed learning about Persian and Italian culture too. Despite heavy themes, this book was light read and read within a few days. Some character stereotyping made me uneasy, but the issues it highlights need addressing. I would imagine this book was hard to write for the author. It is well executed. 5 stars.
