This book follows eighteen-year-old Amir Azadi as he comes out as gay to his Muslim family. How It All Blew Up follows Amir's story as he runs away to Rome and it is narrated by him telling his story to an officer in an airport interrogation room.

How it all blew up also shows the responses of his family members to his homosexuality. His sister is accepting and his mum is scared for his safety but his dad has conflicting feeling. This story shows his sister using her excellent sleuthing skills to find out where her brother has gone because he ran away in the middle of the night.

What I love about this book is how refreshing it is for the author to be from and ethnic background and gay. I think that Arvin Ahmadi may have used some of his personal experiences in this book which help to make it so realistic and personal. Overall, I think this is an excellent book and I enjoyed the way that it was written.
